Cleaning after building work is not a bigger version of an ordinary deep clean. It is a different job with a different enemy: fine cement and gypsum dust, which behaves nothing like household dust. It is abrasive, it travels into every gap in the flat regardless of how well the room was sealed, and if you dry-sweep it you simply put it back into the air to settle again that evening.
There is usually paint and adhesive residue too — drips on the floor, tape marks, grout haze on new tiles, stickers on new fittings — and each of those needs its own approach rather than a mop.
That is why it is priced above a regular deep clean of the same flat, and why it is worth doing once, properly, rather than three times badly.

- Cement dust needs wet methods and repeated passes. One wipe moves it; it takes several rounds before a surface stops coming up grey. Teams price the passes, not the room.
- It gets everywhere. Inside cupboards, on top of door frames, in the runners of every sliding window, inside switch plates, on the blades of fans, in the AC filters. A room that was “sealed off” is never actually sealed.
- Grout haze on new tiles is a specific film that needs the right product and a bit of patience. Left too long it becomes considerably harder to shift.
- Paint drips, adhesive and sticker residue each need scraping or solvent, carefully, without damaging the new surface underneath.
- Vacuum filters clog fast, which slows the whole job. It is one of the practical reasons this is not a job for the household broom.
Debris removal is a separate question — settle it first
The commonest dispute after renovation work is who takes away the rubble, and it is entirely avoidable by asking once.
- Cleaning is not debris removal. Broken tiles, offcuts, cement bags, packaging and old fittings are a haulage job, usually with a separate charge and sometimes a separate person entirely.
- Contractors often leave it. Establish in writing, before the renovation ends, whether your contractor is removing debris or leaving it for you. This is the single most useful sentence in a renovation agreement.
- Societies have rules. Many Delhi and Gurgaon societies restrict which lift can carry construction waste and at what hours, and some require a deposit. Check before a team arrives to find they cannot work.
- Do not put construction waste in ordinary bins. It is not municipal waste and it will not be collected.
Do it in the right order
Sequencing saves you from paying for the same clean twice.
- All dusty work finishes first. Drilling, chipping, POP, sanding, painting. If any of it is still pending, wait — a clean before the last coat is money thrown away.
- Debris out, then clean. In that order, always.
- Then furniture and curtains back in. An empty flat cleans faster, cheaper and far more completely. Our moving-in tips make the same argument for the same reason.
- Change the AC filters afterwards, not before. They will have collected construction dust and they are the thing that puts it back into the air all summer. Our AC service guide covers that job.
- Flush the taps and check the water filter. Plumbing work loosens sediment; run every tap for a minute and check the RO pre-filter, which may now be choked. See our RO filter guide.
- Then book the polishing, if the floor needs it. Marble and stone often take scratches during a renovation, and polishing after the clean rather than before is the right order.
