The short answer

Marble polishing is priced per square foot, and the range depends entirely on which of three jobs you actually need: a buff to restore shine, honing to remove light scratches, or full diamond polishing that cuts the surface back. The rates are below. Get the floor assessed before agreeing — paying for a full diamond polish on marble that only needed buffing is the commonest way to overspend here.

Marble in a Delhi flat dulls for two different reasons, and they need two different jobs. Telling them apart before you book is most of the value on this page.

Surface dirt and film — years of mopping with the wrong thing, hard-water residue, a haze that never quite comes off. That is a cleaning problem, and scrubbing fixes it. Surface damage — fine scratches, traffic paths, etched patches where something acidic was spilled, edges worn at doorways. That is a polishing problem, and no amount of cleaning will touch it, because the flat, reflective layer of the stone has physically gone.

Paying for polishing when you needed a scrub is expensive. Paying for a scrub when the stone is scratched is money spent on no visible change at all.

Marble polishing rates — Delhi NCR, 2026

Priced per square foot of floor. Where you land inside the band depends on how much correction the stone needs — a light buff and a full multi-stage grind are the two ends of the same row.

JobTypical market rangeWhat it usually includes
Marble polishing / buffing (per sq ft)₹15–40Light buff to full diamond polish — the spread is the amount of correction
Floor / tile scrubbing (per sq ft)₹3–10For dirt and film rather than damage. Much cheaper, and often what is actually needed
Full home deep cleaning — 2BHK₹2,500–4,500Frequently booked alongside, since the flat must be cleared anyway
Post-renovation cleaning₹3,000–8,000Newly laid marble usually needs this before any polishing

Buffing, honing and full diamond polishing

"Polishing" covers three levels of work. Ask which one you are being quoted, because the price and the lifespan are very different.

LevelWhat it doesHow long it lasts
Buffing / crystallisationA chemical and pad treatment that restores shine on the existing surface. Does not remove scratchesMonths. A cosmetic refresh
HoningLight abrasive that removes shallow marks and evens the surface, then polished upA year or more, depending on traffic
Full diamond polishingMultiple grit stages that grind past the damage and re-finish the stone. Removes scratches and etching properlySeveral years. This is the real job

A cheap quote is often a buff. That is not dishonest — a buff on a floor that only needs a buff is the right answer. It becomes a problem when it is sold as a fix for scratches, because in three months the shine goes and the scratches are still there.

Watch out ask directly: "is this crystallisation or a diamond grind?" A quote that will not name the method is a quote you cannot compare.

What ruins marble in a Delhi home

  • Acidic cleaners. Marble is calcium carbonate: anything acidic etches it. That includes many bathroom cleaners, lemon, vinegar and descalers. The dull patch where something was spilled is chemical damage, not dirt, and only polishing removes it.
  • Grit walked in. Delhi dust is abrasive. Every step grinds it into the floor, which is why traffic paths dull first. Doormats at every external door do more for a marble floor than anything you buy in a bottle.
  • Hard water. The white film near bathrooms and kitchens is usually mineral deposit rather than worn stone — that is a scrubbing job. Our bathroom deep cleaning guide covers descaling.
  • Standing water. Marble is porous. Water left on it, particularly around plant pots and near a leaking tap, leaves a mark that goes into the stone rather than sitting on it.
  • Sealing. Ask whether a sealer is applied after polishing. It does not make marble stain-proof, but it buys time to wipe a spill before it soaks in.

Before you book

  • Test the difference yourself. Clean a small patch thoroughly. If the shine returns, you need cleaning. If it stays dull, you need polishing. This one test can save the entire cost of the wrong job.
  • Ask for a sample patch. Any serious polisher will do a square metre first. Look at it in daylight before agreeing to the whole floor.
  • Clear the room completely. The machines are large and the process is wet and messy. Furniture must go, and the room is out of use for the day.
  • Expect slurry. Grinding produces a fine white sludge that must be contained and removed. Confirm who cleans up — it is a common gap between the quote and the day.
  • Do it before you repaint, not after. Polishing throws slurry onto skirting and lower walls.

Frequently asked questions

How much does marble polishing cost per square foot in Delhi?
The indicative 2026 Delhi NCR market range is ₹15–40 per square foot. The bottom of that band is a buff or crystallisation on a floor in reasonable condition; the top is a full multi-stage diamond grind that removes scratches and etching. Plain floor or tile scrubbing, where the stone is sound and only dirty, is far cheaper at ₹3–10 per square foot. These are market ranges, not XpertWorker prices; each professional quotes you free before starting.
Does my marble need polishing or just cleaning?
Test it. Clean a small patch thoroughly with a neutral cleaner and look at it in daylight. If the shine comes back, your problem is dirt and film, and scrubbing is the answer. If the patch is still dull, hazy or visibly scratched, the reflective surface of the stone has physically worn and only polishing restores it. Etched patches where something acidic was spilled always need polishing — no cleaner removes them.
What is the difference between marble buffing and diamond polishing?
Buffing or crystallisation is a chemical and pad treatment that restores shine to the existing surface without removing material. It is quick, cheap and lasts months, and it does not touch scratches. Diamond polishing grinds through several grit stages, removing a fine layer of stone along with the damage, then re-finishes it. It costs more, takes far longer, and lasts years. A cheap quote is usually the first one — ask which you are being offered.
How often should marble floors be polished in Delhi?
A full diamond polish is typically a once-in-several-years job for a normal home. Traffic paths in a busy hallway may want attention sooner. What matters more is prevention: Delhi's dust is abrasive and gets walked in, so doormats at every external door and regular dry dusting slow the dulling far more than frequent polishing does. Avoid acidic cleaners entirely — they etch the stone rather than clean it.
Can marble polishing be done with furniture in the room?
No. The machines are large, the process is wet, and grinding produces a fine white slurry that gets everywhere. The room has to be completely cleared and is out of use for the day. Plan it for a room at a time if you cannot empty the whole flat, and do it before repainting rather than after, because slurry lands on skirting and lower walls.
Does XpertWorker do the polishing or set the price?
Neither. XpertWorker is a marketplace that connects you with independent local professionals. We do not set their prices, we are not their employer, and we never charge you anything. The professional quotes you directly and free before any work begins, and you pay them directly.
