What Is Actually Included in a Home Deep Cleaning?

What makes a clean a deep clean?

Three things: it goes behind and under, it goes up high, and it uses machines and dwell time rather than a cloth and a quick wipe. A regular clean maintains what you can see. A deep clean resets what you cannot.

• Things get moved. Beds, sofas and light furniture are pulled out and cleaned behind and underneath. In a dusty city this is where most of the dust in the house actually lives.
• High level is included. Ceiling fans, light fittings, the tops of wardrobes and cupboards, cornices, AC outdoor-facing grilles, door frames and window frames.
• Dwell time is used. Bathroom scale, kitchen grease and grout stains need a product left to work for minutes, then scrubbed. That is the part a regular clean never has time for.
• Machines are used. A vacuum with a brush head, a scrubbing machine on hard floors in larger homes, a pressure or steam tool in bathrooms depending on the team.
• Insides are done, if agreed. Inside kitchen cabinets, inside the fridge, inside wardrobes — these are commonly optional and depend on whether you have emptied them.
• It takes hours, not one hour. A whole flat done properly is most of a working day for a small team. If a quoted duration sounds short for the size of the home, that is your first question.

The kitchen and bathroom checklist

These two rooms take the largest share of the time, and they are where scope differences show up most. Ask about them specifically.

Kitchen

• Cabinet fronts and handles degreased, plus the tops of overhead units where the greasy dust film settles.
• Inside cabinets and drawers, wiped and relined — usually only if you have emptied them first.
• Backsplash, tiles and grout scrubbed, including the hard-water film that ordinary cleaner leaves behind.
• Countertop cleaned appropriately for the material. Say if it is granite or marble, because acidic degreasers etch stone.
• Sink, drain area and tap descaled — a real job in Delhi water.
• Hob and burners cleaned, and the outside of the chimney or exhaust. Note that stripping and degreasing a chimney's internal filters and motor is usually a separate specialist job.
• Outside of the fridge, oven, microwave and other appliances; insides usually on request.
• Floor, skirting, and behind the fridge if it can be safely moved.

Bathrooms

• Wall and floor tiles washed, plus grout lines scrubbed rather than mopped over.
• Limescale removed from taps, shower, glass partition and mirror — the hard-water work that defines a bathroom deep clean here.
• WC cleaned inside and out, including the base, the cistern and behind it.
• Basin, counter, cabinet and mirror.
• Exhaust fan cover, ceiling corners and any mould in the corners and along the silicone.
• Floor trap and drain cover lifted and cleaned.

Bedrooms, living areas, balconies and windows

Less intensive per square foot than the wet rooms, but this is where the dust volume is, and where “did they move the bed?” decides whether the job was really deep.

• High level down. Cobwebs, ceiling corners, ceiling fan blades and motor housing, light fittings and tube fittings, curtain rods.
• Wardrobe and cupboard tops and outsides. The top of a wardrobe in a Delhi flat holds a startling amount of dust. Insides usually only if emptied.
• Under and behind furniture. Beds, sofas, almirahs and side tables moved where safe, floor cleaned beneath, then put back.
• Doors, frames, handles, switch plates and skirting. The details that make a room look genuinely cleaned rather than tidied.
• Windows, frames, tracks, grilles and mesh from the inside. Ask whether outside faces are included, because above the ground floor that is an access question. See cleaning windows and grilles.
• AC indoor unit exterior and filters. The outer body and washable filters are commonly wiped; internal coil and drain servicing is an AC technician's job, not a cleaner's.
• Floors, including the corners and edges a mop normally misses. Say if any floor is marble or Kota stone so neutral products are used.
• Balcony, utility area and the main door outside face. Often forgotten, worth naming in the scope.
• Rubbish removed. Confirm whether the team takes waste away or leaves it bagged.

What is usually NOT included in deep cleaning?

These are all separate lines of work, usually done by different specialists with different equipment. Assuming they are included is the commonest cause of a disappointing day.

• Sofa, carpet and mattress shampooing. Wet extraction needs its own machine and drying time. See sofa cleaning and mattress and carpet cleaning.
• Chimney stripping and degreasing. Dismantling filters, ducting and the motor is specialist work.
• Water tank cleaning. A separate job entirely — water tank cleaning.
• Marble or stone polishing. That is a machine-and-abrasive job, not cleaning — marble polishing.
• Pest control. Cleaning removes what attracts pests; it does not treat an infestation.
• Post-renovation debris and cement or paint removal. Building dust and splashes are a different scope with different tools — post-renovation cleaning.
• Wall washing and stain removal from paint. Most emulsion paint will not survive scrubbing, so this is usually a painting question.
• Repairs of any kind. A leaking tap, a loose fitting or a blocked drain found on the day is a plumber's job.
• Exterior facade or high outside glass. Height access work, normally arranged at building level.
• Decluttering and sorting your belongings. Cleaners clean surfaces; they should not be deciding what you keep.

How do I confirm the scope before booking?

Ask five questions and write the answers down. All of them are free to ask, and they turn a vague quote into something you can hold up at the end of the day.

• “How many people, and for how many hours?” This is the honest measure of the size of the job. A large flat done properly is many person-hours; a very short quoted duration means a narrower scope somewhere.
• “Which of these is included?” Read out the list that matters to you — inside cabinets, fans, wardrobe tops, balcony, windows outside, behind the fridge, grout scrubbing.
• “Who provides materials and machines, and what will you use on my floors?” Materials are usually included, but confirm it. If you have marble, granite or Kota stone, say so and check the products are neutral.
• “What do you need from me beforehand?” Usually cupboards emptied if insides are in scope, valuables put away, water and power available, and parking or lift access sorted.
• “What is not included?” The most useful question of the five, and the one people forget.
